On May 31 2017, the leader of PetroVietnam & PVPower and partner has witnessed the signing of an MoU between PetroVietnam and General Electric (GE) at Washington DC , United State for the cooperation on the supply of equipment, development of the complex of gas turbine power plants, which shall consume natural gas extracting from the Blue Whale field.
During an official visit to the United State of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, PetroVietnam has signed a memorandum of understanding with GE for the cooperation on the development of the two 750MW combined cycle gas turbine power plants - Mien Trung I & II - using nature gas extracting from the Blue Whale field, which is known as the largest gas field in Vietnam with an estimated of 150 billion cubic meters of reserves. Mien Trung I & II have been assigned to PetroVietnam by the Government and are located in the Quang Nam province. According to the schedule, the two power plants shall start operating by 2023 and 2024.
GE is a multinational corporation which has business activities focusing on energy, technology, finance, ect. Along with the expertise in global power development, GE shall be working with PetroVietnam to identify the optimal technology solutions for up-coming gas turbine power plants in order to achieve higher efficiency, lower fuel consumption, and lower emissions rates.
On the other hand, GE and PetroVietnam has been known for their established partnership via some key power projects of PV Power such as providing an upgrade of GT13E2 MXL2 gas turbine for Nhon trach 1, risk evaluating and providing the Turbine Protection System for Vung Ang 1 coal-fired power plant in the case of subsynchronous resonance (SSR)…
